Intuit announced it's expanding AI features across QuickBooks and TurboTax, aimed at new customers, with the focus on revenue growth from bundled tools. The same week, Gartner published a survey claiming 58% of finance teams "use AI," without naming a single tool or task.
This is vendor bundling dressed up as innovation. Intuit is packaging capabilities you can already get from ChatGPT or Grammarly into a subscription you're already paying for, then calling it AI innovation. If you're used to a $20/month ChatGPT Plus account and a five-minute prompt, most of these features won't save you a single second. And the 58%-of-finance-teams stat is meaningless without knowing what "use" means: one team drafting emails in ChatGPT and another categorizing transactions in QuickBooks AI are not the same bet, but both get counted the same way.
QuickBooks Simple Start with AI categorization runs about $30/month (check current pricing). ChatGPT covers many of the same bookkeeping questions for free, or $20/month on Plus.
Small business owners already on QuickBooks who haven't turned on transaction-categorization suggestions yet. Nobody else needs to act on this.
